Here it is, the “Alex” Gundam in HG! Featuring all the greatness it does in 0080, this rendition of the NT-1 should satisfy any fan of the OVA. It comes with the wrist-mounted Gatling guns, beam rifle, beam saber, and all the extra armor pieces so it can be displayed in both modes. It is also 100% pre-colored and snap-together, so no paint or glue is required to complete it. Hooray!

Old but one of the best HGUC Gundams

It's an old kit and the joints on it are a bit crude but overall I think it's one of the best-looking Gundams in the HGUC line.

In particular, the Gundam Alex has a fairly unique look and the HGUC does a good job capturing that look. The kit shares a lot of its design with the original MG Alex, but with a few tweaks that give it a little more of that 0080 look rather than the Katoki style of the MG.

The shortcomings of the kit are problems shared by most HGs: poor hands, simple-looking joints, shallow-molded detail (like the thrusters all over the body), elements that are out-of-scale for the sake of ruggedness or cost cutting (like the antennae or the main camera housing on the top of the head)

The rotary cannon gimmick in the forearms is a nice feature but unfortunately also another weak point of the kit: When displaying the rotary cannons "deployed" you're opening up the arm so people can see the interior - and there's just not much to see. It's not unexpected on an inexpensive kit like this but it's a shame they didn't add a little detail to the exposed interior of the arm, just something to at least hint at the interior structure that should be there could have gone a long way toward making the rotary cannons look better when open.

      One of my favorite Gundams

This is a great kit from an awesome OVA. Love the arm mounted gatling guns. I do question the extra armor. Not sure why anyone would mount it on this kit because it is so damn good looking without it.

Simple and classic UC HG gunpla

A nice, straightforward HG gunpla. It can be slim or chunky depend on your preference using the optional armor. Good if you like the original Gundam since it's a variation on that.

      A Certified HGUC Classic

The HGUC Alex is a fun build with standard articulation and the basic Gundam weapon assortment (excluding the armor). Although this kit does suffer the same issues most old HGUC kits have, I'm able to look past it and have fun taking the armor off and on again. I honestly want to get a second one just so I can use it for spare parts for my Alex that I broke.

Great Old Kit...Except the Clear Decals

I didn't realize this was a 2004 kit when I purchased it, so I was a bit nervous considering the stories I had heard about pre-2014 kits. However, this was my simplest build since I started this hobby. It's a take on a classic cool design, articulation is decent given the age of the kit, and the nub marks/stressed plastic is hard to see.

The caveat is the clear decals are a massive pain! They're hard to pull on and off and crinkle VERY easily. The crinkling I accidentally made on the blue chest is really hard to ignore.

One last point, the lines on this kit are very clear, so I think it's a great one for practicing panel lining. This is the first one where I'm going to make the attempt.
