We just want to bring attention to the very strange fact that the first mech released in model kit form from a brand new anime wasn't the main character, but rather.... one from a serialized monthly Hobby Japan side story?? Interesting decision, but we won't complain because the design of this model is so incredible! Plenty of articulation gimmicks and features will give you a ton of posing options upon completion, whether you're familiar with the source material or not!

Amazing design but not much else.

The HG Byakuchi is a sick robot model kit. Its decidedly un-human, which makes it a cool contrast to other Gunpla. You get reverse jointed legs, which give the Byakuchi a springy, and agile look. The arms too, are designed in a very inhuman way, allowing the arm to move in strange ways. the shoulders swing super far forwards and back, and even have pistons which make the Byakuchi look like a feasible machine. The Autocannon looks like a real world weapon, super grounded and down to earth. The missile launcher too, looks like a semi-sci-fi take on a real world MLRS. The design is very grounded, as grounded as Mecha can get.

On the other hand, the value really isn't there, in my opinion. Sure, its a tad bit bigger than the average HG kit, and you get the auto cannon, the rocket pod, and a little shield. It even comes with alternate hands, which is rare for non high end HGUC model kits! Still; it still feels like the kit is missing that final piece to make it worth the price. This is par for the course when it comes to non-gundam HG lines, however, so a customer who's familiar with how these things work, would probably understand that.

Quality is another place where this kit suffers. Lots of stickers on this kit, including some ones that are hard to justify on a modern HG kit.

Overall, the Byakuchi is absolutely CARRIED by its super cool design, but is plagued with sub-par color separation, and an iffy value proposition. I still love this kit! It's completely unique…

      Mechanical Excellence

I'll be honest I wasn't sold on the Kyoukai Senki designs initially (except the Bunyip that thing is awesome!) but having now built this kit, Kenbu, & the Bunyip I have come to really appreciate the mechanical design of these mechs a lot. Kyakuchi uses almost the exact frame as Kenbu but has far better accessories in my opinion as it comes with a nearly exact rifle (except with a drum magazine), a proper shield, & the back mounted rocket pod. My only gripe about the design in that the horn feels arbitrarily tacked atop the head & it's connection point on the kit feels a little flimsy.

The kit is of exceptional quality & the part separation is quite good (pic attached does not have stickers). What makes these kits shine is the unique designs & how well they've been executed as models. They are well articulated, nicely detailed, & will surely be excellent kitbash fodder for those who dabble in such things.

      Fun Little Kit!

I normally don't like HGs, I prefer RGs for 1/144 scale models, but I picked this one up on a whim and I was surprised how much I enjoyed this kit. It's a straight forward build, but the joints all have a great range of motion and I found myself happily posing it while still building it up. It has no trouble holding these poses too! The only down side was the color correcting sticker sheet, it's decently big for a kit this size. Pretty much everything that's yellow/orange that's not on the head is a sticker. However I found it still looks great even without the stickers. If you like the design and are looking for a fun quick build that's a delight to pose, this is a good bet.
